Safari Experiences

Walking Safaris

The bush at eye level, on foot

Best time

June to October, when grass is short and visibility is good

Suited to

Active travellers, second-time safari-goers, naturalists

Pace

Two to three hours on foot, mornings only

The experience

Walking changes the scale of everything. You notice tracks, dung beetles, birdsong and the smell of wild sage — details a vehicle drives straight past. Guided by an armed ranger and a specialist walking guide, these are slow, quiet hours rather than long treks.

A different set of senses

Tracks, plants, insects and birds become the story instead of the background.

Genuine wilderness areas

Walking is permitted in the Ngorongoro highlands, Arusha NP and selected Serengeti concessions.

Small groups

Walks run with a handful of guests, an armed ranger and your guide.
